Während Politiker und Virologen weiter vor einer zweiten Welle warnen, ist in den neuen Zahlen des Statistischen Bundesamtes zur Gesamtsterblichkeit in Deutschland nicht mal etwas von der ersten zu sehen. Prof. Stefan Homburg zeigt, daß 2020 deutlich weniger Menschen starben als im Grippewinter 2018. Und die Neuinfektionen sinken weiter, wie bei Epidemien von Atemwegserkrankungen üblich. Für die Wirtschaft und die Staatsfinanzen sieht Finanzwissenschaftler Homburg allerdings schwarz.

Bundesverfassungsgericht gibt Klage gegen BND-Befugnisse statt
Die anlasslose Massenüberwachung des Bundesnachrichtendienstes (BND) im Ausland verstößt in ihrer jetzigen Ausgestaltung gegen Grundrechte. Das Bundesverfassungsgericht gab am Dienstag einer Verfassungsbeschwerde der Menschenrechtsorganisation Reporter ohne Grenzen und mehrerer ausländischer Journalisten gegen das Ende 2016 reformierte BND-Gesetz statt. Es muss nun bis spätestens Ende 2021 überarbeitet werden. (Az. 1 BvR 2835/17)

EZB-Präsidentin: Bundesbank muss sich weiterhin an Anleihenkäufen beteiligen
"Jede nationale Zentralbank in der Eurozone ist unabhängig und darf keine Anweisungen von Regierungen entgegennehmen. Dies ist in den Verträgen festgeschrieben", betonte Lagarde. Die Deutsche Bundesbank ist mit etwas mehr als 26 Prozent größter Anteilseigner der gemeinsamen Notenbank für den Euroraum mit seinen 19 Mitgliedstaaten.
